TOURISTIC INFORMATION ABOUT SANTIAGO
Santiago
Santiago, the capital of the country, with a population close to 5 million, is the home of almost one-third of the country’s population. It is a safe and modern city located at the foot of the Andes Mountains, distant only 42 km. from Chile’s best ski resorts and 100 km. from the Pacific coast. Santiago has all the infrastructure and facilities you would expect from a modern city. It is a well-known international location for important economic forums, business meetings, fairs and expositions, seminars and business events. Business tourism has its headquarters here at five star hotels, outstanding facilities for events and conferences and sophisticated gastronomic zones.
Weather
Santiago enjoys a pleasant Mediterranean climate. It has four clearly defined seasons. Typically, with hot, dry Summers and mild Winters. Summer temperatures reach highs of around 28°C (82°F), while Winters average around 11°C (52°F). Rainfall falls mainly during the Winter. In the Fall, when this General Assembly will be held, temperatures average 15°C (59°F). We recommend that visitors bring mid-season jacket and pants.
Around Santiago
Located about 110 km northwest of Santiago, Valparaíso is Chile’s principal port and its second-important city. This is one of Chile’s most distinctive cities and one of South America’s most intriguing places. Valparaiso is a colorful destination and the home to Chile’s naval headquarters and the National Congress. The city was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2003. One of Chile’s premier beach resorts, Viña del Mar, is only 10 km. north of Valparaíso. Viña del Mar offers a wide range of hotels and modern facilities.
